Malibu Colony, nestled south of Malibu Road off the Pacific Coast Highway, offers residents easy access to top-tier shopping, dining, and nightlife, all within walking distance. This exclusive community boasts stunning ocean views that stretch from Santa Monica to Rancho Palos Verdes to the south, and the picturesque bluffs of Point Dume to the north.
The history of Malibu Colony is rich and captivating. In 1892, Frederick Hastings Rindge and his wife, May Knight Rindge, acquired the sprawling 13,330-acre Rancho Malibu for just $10 per acre, eventually expanding their cattle and grain ranch to 17,000 acres. After a devastating brush fire destroyed their large home in Malibu Canyon in 1903, May Rindge took over management of their properties following her husband's passing two years later. She began leasing beachfront lots to some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Clara Bow, Bing Crosby, Gloria Swanson, and Gary Cooper. Quaint seaside cottages were built for these residents, earning the area the nickname "Malibu Beach Motion Picture Colony."
As the original leases expired, many of these glamorous residents chose to purchase their homes, transforming the cottages into lavish estates complete with expansive square footage, swimming pools, and tennis courts.
Today, Malibu Colony is a stunning mix of classic bungalows and grand mansions, all showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. The community features 24-hour guard-gated security, ensuring privacy and peace of mind for its residents.
