Sunset Square is located on the western end of Hollywood, right below the Hollywood Hills, adjacent to West Hollywood. Bounded by Hollywood Blvd to the north, Vista Street to the east, Sunset Blvd to the south and Fairfax to the west, the Sunset Square neighborhood is situated just north of the Spaulding Square neighborhood.

The Sunset Square neighborhood comprises 348 parcels. Consisting mostly of properties that are single and multi- family residences constructed primarily in the first half of the 20th century, with most of the construction occurring between 1910 and the 1920’s. The dominant architectural styles are Craftsman, Spanish Colonial Revival, and American Colonial Revival; other styles include: Tudor Revival, Mediterranean Revival, French Revival, and Minimal Traditional. The district is characterized not only by its buildings but also by spatial and landscape features such as its gridded street plan, consistent lot sizes and setbacks, concrete sidewalks, and landscaped parkways.

The Sunset Square HPOZ was adopted by the City Council in 2017.
